In retrospect, I’m really just the sum total of all the choices I’ve made in my life.

The best choice I made in my teens: Joining the British Revolution in 1965…Yeah, yeah, yeah!

The best choice I made in my 20s: Hooking up with my wife-to-be (runner-up is my discovery of an alternative to conventional Western medicine…Thanks for pointing me in that direction, Maddy).

The best choice I made in my 30s: Marrying Maddy after 8 years of shacking up together. This year we’ll celebrate our 25th anniversary; we just celebrated our 33rd year together this month…Sound the alarm; there is life after 30!

The best choice I made in my 40s: Becoming a teacher…Who would ever have thought I had the patience?

The jury is still out as to the best choice in my 50s, but if I had to choose today, I’d say it’s been my commitment to face my fears head-on with both feet firmly planted on the ground, and discovering that I don’t have to face them alone, that has made the greatest difference.
